Cremation
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED CREMATION?
The practice of cremation has its roots in antiquity, dating back further than
the mid- 700s B.C., when cremation memorialization was well established as part
of the elaborate Greek burial customs. Homer, at the end of the Iliad,
describes the elaborate funeral games surrounding the cremation of Patroclus.
Archeological discoveries provide evidence that the Vikings, whose dramatic
cremation ceremonies have been the subject of numerous books and movies,
memorialized their chieftains by erecting a post called a cenotaph engraved
with the name and date.
Today, we would call this a memorial. Just as it served as a land memorial to
the Viking Chieftain who was placed aboard his burning ship and set afloat, a
memorial can be used to memorialize persons buried or scattered elsewhere. If
you have ever considered cremation... consider this.
You can have a funeral...and you can still have a memorial service. That way
your family and friends will have a way to say goodbye. We also offer your
choice of either ground burial or mausoleum inurnment of the cremated remains.
Only with Forest Meadows do you have such a complete range of choices. Most
importantly we have our own crematory located in our funeral home, so there's
never a question of where or by whom your loved one is being cremated. For
peace of mind you can place your trust in Forest Meadows.
