Neal Thompson

Captain Neal Thompson, a resident of Alachua County Florida, went to be with the Lord at the age of 73 on Monday, March 8, 2010. He was born July 18, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York.



Captain Thompson’s diverse accomplishments include his thirty eight years of dedicated service to the University of Florida as professor, administrator and Assistant Dean in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, authoring more than 50 research publications and serving as the principal investigator on many large contracts and grants. Captain Thompson received his BS in General Science from Wheaton College in 1957, followed in 1962 with receiving his MA in Botany from Miami College, and his PhD in Biology from Princeton University in 1965. Captain Thompson served his Country in the United States Navy for over 22 years including active duty and the reserves.



Neal’s Christian faith was very important to him and his family as he served on numerous Christian Boards such as the Southeastern District Board of the Evangelical Free Church and the Child Evangelism Fellowship Board of Alachua County. He also served as a church officer, Elder, and founding member of Creekside Community Church in Gainesville, Florida. During his retirement, Neal also enjoyed worshiping at Chestnut Dale Baptist Church in North Carolina.



He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beverly; his children, Erick (Denise), Victor (Ann), Clifford (Sherry), Stuart (Teresa) Thompson and Karen (Steve) Thompson Pritchett; his grandchildren, Ericka, Elizabeth, Heather, Jeremy, Clifford II, Christabel, Joy, Grace, Faith, Taylor, Ander, and Trae Thompson; his brother, Thomas M. Thompson and sister Muriel Thompson Johnston.



A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Forest Meadows Central “Chapel In The Meadows”, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32606

When I first started working at the Pesticide Research Lab/UF back in 1969, Dr. Thompson was my friend, my guide and my mentor. He will be greatly missed by all. To the family, I would like to say that my heart is with you and that may the memories of happy times past comfort you now and always.
